This is a really good idea, in theory. Everything about this was easy to put together, but, there's two problems I found with this cable kit:First, the cable gage is very small. The outer casing is normal size, but the actual cable - the part that does the work - is only about half the size of the original clutch cable that I took off my bike. I couldn't believe it. Its the same small gage wire that you would normally use for a throttle cable, NOT the heavy duty wire that should be used for a clutch cable. Maybe it will hold up, but I have my doubts.Second, and more seriously, is how you're supposed to attach the ferrule on the end of the cable. The ferrule has a cross hole bored through, and after you insert the cable, you're supposed to drive a small steel interference pin through the cross hole. You only get one shot to do this right, and as I found out, there's a 99% chance that the pin will deflect off of the cable and miss going all the way through the ferrule. There's no taking it back out and trying again. It's there permanently. So now you're left with half the pin sticking out of the ferrule, which has to be filed or ground off, and the cable/ferrule only held together by half.Overall, when you can buy a professionally made clutch cable for just a few dollars more, this risk just isn't worth it. I went ahead and put this on my bike (94 FXSTS) but I don't trust it, and I'm only going to run this cable while I order a better one.I hope this helps save someone else all the hassle.UPDATE: This cable finally broke today (10-7-2016) and left me stranded. The ferrule pulled off the end of the cable and that was it. So now I have to buy yet another clutch cable.Like I said, if you could get the pin all the way through, it might hold up really good. But you only get one shot to get it right, otherwise you just threw away $65 and set yourself up for failure.Great quality! Amazing cable. Very thick and stiff braided steel covered by clear rubbery coating. Extremely simple directions and can be completed with normal tools. Clutch cover end was a bit tight, I had to screw it in and back it out a few times before it would go all the way in. Works amazingly, looks very clean. I got the BYO braided brake line from H-D dealer and it was cheaper, and is DOT approved after building too. Magnum makes some great stuff!Strong and great qualityExcellent product!!!!!! great construction, more or less easy build.I’ve built two of these, the cable pulls out of the end, no matter how tight you turn the set screw, the cable is cheap and a very small gauge. I’d only keep this as an emergency, never as a primary clutch cable, save yourself the headache and spend the extra 25 bucks to have a custom length cable built from Barnett. Sucks when you’re cruising at 55mph and your clutch cable snaps. Enough to ruin anyone’s day.
