The red and black wires are attached for most of the distance, separating only at the ends with the clamps. There is printing on red wire but not on the black one, probably because they are attached. The printing on the red cable reads: 2468 16AWG VW-1 80°C 300V I/II A FT1 80°C 300V 16AWG (that repeats several times along the red cable).This is a convenient setup for connecting a 12V battery (or ~14V for a fully charged LiFePO4 battery) to something that takes 12V via a DC5521 (5.5mm x 2.1mm) connector, just be sure that whatever you power that way can take the voltage variation of a battery that you wouldn't get with a 'wall wart' power supply. If we ever have a serious blackout I might be able to use this to power my wireless modem directly from a battery since it takes a 12V DC5521 input.
